Did You Know
If you do a google search, you will find that Wilhelm produced dozens of such images, all
fairly similar, during the course of his reign. They were reproduced as prints and postcards by the million, and most German homes had at least one.
Wilhelm hoped they would convey a sense of awe in his monarchy.
However, the historian Eva Giloi (2012) thought it backfired on him,
trivialising him to 'celebrity' so that, when it came to it, he was
discarded just as easily as the postcards were thrown out.
