Chapter 6: A Kingdom United

Historians today disagree about the significance of the Civil War – it certainly seems not have been the history-changing event that the 'Whig' historians of the 19th century claimed it to be.  Nevertheless, in the years after 1649, changes occurred in Britain which can, with hidsight, be seen to have been the beginnings of our modern Parliamentary government, and of the United Kingdom.

This chapter tells the story, and addresses some of the historical issues, of the years in British history after the Civil War.
